Red Mangrove

Rhizophora mangle

Description:

There are three true species of mangroves (Red, White, and Black), but Buttonwood Mangrove is generally included as a mangrove in Florida. Red Mangroves are distinguishable from others generally by their propagules. Red Mangroves are becoming more common in North Florida due to warmer temperatures. Red Mangroves are displacing Salt Marshes as well because of this.

Habitat:

Along the St. Johns River.

Notes:

First two picture were taken in St. Augustine, FL. Final picture was taken on February 25, 2012 at Mosquito Lagoon.
