Common Grackle

Quiscalus quiscula

Description:

This is a bird that lives in the backyards of houses during the warmer months. They have dark black feathers over their body while their heads are covered by blue-black feathers. Without light, the birds look completely black. They are not very aggressive although they protect the birdfeeders that are set out from the neighbourhood squirrels.

Notes:

I'm not sure what these birds are called, but my family and I have called them Magpies, but I cannot find them in any of the bird books that I read.
