Notes:

I've had this picture for a couple of years and only just recently found out that this is a "picture-winged fly" of some kind. I didn't find it in any field guides. I had the photo sent to an entomology professor at a university. All he would say is that it's a picture-winged fly. It was about the size of a mosquito. I wish I knew more about it.

I found this on a flower in my meadow, but didn't really know how cool it was until I zoomed in on the photo when I put it on my computer. It was tiny! There are some really beautiful flies out there. I think they're a little under appreciated!

Beautiful macro! There are a few species of these neat looking flies. They remind be a bit of horses with that face. I have a spotting (not quite as close-up) of a related species but not the same genus:
