Black-crested Bulbul

Pycnonotus flaviventris

Description:

The Black-crested Bulbul, (Pycnonotus flaviventris), is a member of the bulbul family of passerine birds. It is found from the Indian Subcontinent to southeast Asia. The Black-crested Bulbul is generally about 19 cm (centimeters) in length. As the name suggests, the head of this bulbul is black while the rest of its body is different shades of yellow. Both the male and female are similar in plumage. One can make out a younger bird by its slightly duller coloring. This is a bird of forest and dense scrub. It builds its nest in a bush; two to four eggs is a typical clutch. The Black-crested Bulbul feeds on fruit and insects.

Habitat:

I spotted this in Singapore. It is also seen in Jurong Bird Park, Singapore.

@ marirs, to use Singapore as a habitat and location is not acceptable. Singapore is a large island with multiple habitats.
Also, as I stated earlier, this is not a bird found in Singapore or even the southern part of the Malay peninsula. Your map pin shows it in the middle of the city which would not be a habitat one would expect it to be seen in, nor would it match the background of your photograph.
It would be highly likely that this bird has escaped from captivity, in which case it would probably fly to its forest environment, which would mean that your map pin is not in the correct location.
On the other hand, maybe you actually took this photograph in Jurong Bird Park, in which case it should be listed as captive.
If it was indeed seen away from the park may I suggest you go to this web page http://wildbirdsingapore.nss.org.sg/inde... and send them a full report with the exact location.

marirs, this is a beautiful spotting and I love bulbuls and their beautiful call (the ones I knew in India). Just to make your spotting complete, could you please edit and add under "habitat" where you found the bird. thanks.

Malcolm, This was taken in one of the morning walks @ singapore. It was in the woods. I also spotted this at the jurong bird park as well.

Can you please give some more details of this, such as where exactly you saw it. This is a bird of dense forests and has not been recorded from Singapore
