Ok, just similar...may not be same species.
https://biodiversityofwestbengal.wildwin... (Red and black) plus brown ones too.
It's okay. Just little curious to know which colormorphs are there! BTW, I'm from AP. I'm not aware that Pumpkin leaves and stems are edible. :) Good information!
I will try and get the bugs from my pumpkin plant but since it was not fruiting, the neighbours and I ate most of it. :)
In Bengal, we eat the stem, young leaves and flowers of the pumpkin plant ...so not just the bugs to blame...I will see if more bugs come for the remaining plant and will upload!
As per the article - https://www.researchgate.net/figure/The-..., Nezara viridula shows 12 colormorphs distributed around the world. I've tried to consolidate my spottings based on the traits.
Different traits:
a. Green dorsal body with 5 tiny dots (3 white + 2 black) in anterior margin of Scutellum
b. Yellow collar on the Pronotum and yellow fasciae on head region
c. Yellow outer edges on the dorsal body
d. Black spots on dorsal body
e. Yellow dorsal body with green spots

Hi SukanyaDatta, Sorry for the late reply! It's very good article! Thanks for sharing. So, it's close to Nezara viridula colormorph type R as per the article. BTW, if possible , can you please upload the bugs you spotted?
I found this interesting as brown bugs that look very similar are now attacking my pumpkin plants...so, I did a quick search using Google lens and found an interesting article plus photo in which the third photo resembles your spotting quite a bit.
