American Goldfinch

Spinus tristis

Description:

Dull yellow head, breast, and back with black and white striped wings.

Habitat:

small field surrounded by deciduous forest

Notes:

This little guys sat on top of my feeder for several minutes singing to any prospective mates in the area before helping himself to as many sunflower seeds as he could eat. He might have better luck with the ladies when he grows his full summer plumage.
