cap approx. 3 inxhes, 3 1/2 inches tall

Habitat:

spotted on the rotted remains of oak stump

Notes:

possibly jack-o-lantern mushroom?

Thank you, Both. I've looked at the gymnopilus and I believe that Leuba is right. Gymnopilus ferruginosus seems most likely in appearance and as I understand it the mushroom is quite widespread.

Leuba's right, it's Gymnopilus, not Jacl-o-Lantern

saw one of these today -think it's Gymnopilus ferruginosus (in Australia) need to check species in Florida
