Eastern Brown Snake

Pseuonaja textilis

Description:

One of the most highly venomous land snakes in the world. This alert, diurnal hunters will readily defend themselves if harassed. Members of this species often have spots on their ventral surface - as displayed by this individual.

Habitat:

This species is often cited as being a rare beneficiary of human activity as they primarily feed on rodents, which thrive around human settlements. I am skeptical about this claim, but regardless, they seem to occur in decent numbers across a large portion of Australia.
