Eastern Tent Caterpillars

Malacosoma americanum

Description:

A bunch of caterpillars in their "tent." When the caterpillars hatch, they make a silken tent like this one. It's amazingly strong! They disperse to feed, then return to their communal nest, until they are full-grown.

Habitat:

Tree in the woods (don't know what species)
