Fierce Crab Spider

Xysticus ferox

Description:

Xysticus ferox, the Fierce Crab Spider perhaps gets its species name "ferox" which means "fierce" from its defensive posture. The posture may look fierce to a small insect, but to me it looks like this spider wants a hug!

Habitat:

Found in leaf litter near a creek.
