Sawfly Larva

Description:

Small larva. Purplish-gray upper half of body with a pale lower half. Pinkish head. Dark "eye" dot on each side of the head. When disturbed will fall off of grass blade and curl up in a defensive posture. Sawfly larvae are often mistaken for caterpillars.

Habitat:

Suburban yard, feeding on grass.

Notes:

These cute little guys were all over the grass in the yard! I was attempting to photograph a different insect (unsuccessfully I might add) and saw these as I was creeping around the flowers. There is a very low chance of finding an ID for this at this time from what I can tell. Sawflies are a type of wasp.
