Black-necked Stilt

Himantopus mexicanus

Description:

Black and white shorebird. Long pink legs. Long thin black bill. Young look similar to other shore birds so they can blend in and not be seen by flying predators. Their bills are slightly shorter then the Avocet and they legs are pinkish. The stripe on the eye is slightly faded.

Habitat:

marshes, estuaries. For nesting they find raised mounds to make their nests.
