Broad-winged Hawk

Buteo platypterus

Habitat:

They nest in hardwood forest of eastern North America. This one was perched in a tree by the side of the road, looking for prey.

Notes:

Broad-winged Hawks can be seen by the thousands during migration at hawk watch sites, but is difficult to see in its breeding range.
