Elm Sawfly larva

Cimbex americana

Description:

Yellowish or greenish white larvae with a dorsal black stripe which are vigorous defoliators chiefly of elm and willow.

Habitat:

Wooded portion of wildlife habitat yard.

Notes:

These were new to me, and as so often happens, once you see one, you find more. I came across a half dozen of these on or around our deck.
