Sandwich Tern (non-breeding)

Thalasseus sandvicensis

Description:

Medium to large tern. Very pale grey mantle, white otherwise. deeply forked tail. The bill is long, black with a yellow tip. In non breeding plumage, the forecrown is white.

Habitat:

Coastal waters. Resting on a traditional west Africa fishing boat.

Notes:

You will notice that the bird right in the center of the picture has same characteristics, except a yellow-orange bill: this is a Royal Tern, camouflaging in the flock.
