A butterfly mimics the eyes of a larger creature as a natural way of protection while resting(maybe it also have another function), it lays its eggs on nettles in which the larvae consumes before evolving into a pupe. The species tend to hibernate in lofts and outhouses during winter.

Thank you Maria! This one I had to run back and forth after to get a shot from since it had company and was eager to dance in the sunshine with its partner. Eventually I got this shot. They are among the most common butterflies in this area at this time of year :)
