Grass Crab Spider

Oxytate virens

Description:

Commonly found in the ventral side of green leaves. The colouration of this spider merges with the colouration of green leaves. Retreat is constructed by folding the end portion of a leaf back onto itself thereby creating a pyramidal space. During night, it stalks for prey hanging onto the under-side of leaves. When the spider senses the vibrations caused by prey moving on the upper side of the leaf, it quickly pounces on the victim. Thanks Sumukha Javagal for the ID :-)

Habitat:

Backyard garden

Notes:

Extremely well camouflaged. You can notice the tiny spiderlings too..
