Barred Owl

Strix varia

Description:

Two Barred Owls came to visit my backyard this morning. There is a family of them that have lived in the woods behind my house for a couple of years now. I can always hear them, but hardly ever see them. However, in the past two weeks I have been seeing them more often. It was an amazing morning! One even slept on a limb right outside of my window for about two hours. At one point, he laid down on the limb to sleep with his head facing the ground!! I had no idea that that could sleep that way and not straight up. It was so nice to see them for several hours this morning as I will be moving away from this home to Finland. I will miss seeing these beautiful owls!
