Habitat:

In the woods growing on stumps of dead trees. In the woods in northern indiana.

It appears to be Polyporus squamous, which is edible although not fantastic. I don't know of any close look-alikes, however this one is unusually light coloured, so I can't be 100% confident of my identification. I would be very surprised if it was something else but it's best not to eat it to stay on the sage side.
