Eastern Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis

Description:

My first snake spotting! Small snake (young) with a pale belly. Checkered brown/black on the sides with a white dorsal stripe. Pale chin with a brown head. One of four that I spotted during this trip but the others were larger and moved into the grasses too quickly for me to get any pictures.

Habitat:

Short Hills Provinical Park, Ontario, Canada. Temperate forest. Found on the trail.

Notes:

Posted with permission from my husband.
