Nyctea Scandiaca
Twenty to Twenty six inches tall. A large white owl with a round head. More or less flecked or barred with dusky. Some birds are much whiter then others. Day flying prefers marshes, meadows, shores. Perches on posts, dunes, muskrat houses and haystacks. Range: Arctic wintering irregularly to middle states. Cyclic irrupting in numbers in about four year intervals.
