meadow spittlebug

Philaenus spumarius

Description:

Hidden within masses of frothy "spittle" the spittlebug or nymph of the meadow froghopper is rarely seen, and appears embryonic with unformed eyes.

Habitat:

In a froth of "spittle" on the spent flower of a columbine. I also found a yellowish one on a stem of Love in a Mist. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/238...

Notes:

This one appears to be more mature
