Spotting

Description:

Bright yellow spherical fungus with lots of texture. Easily mistaken for a flower. About the diameter iof a quarter.

Habitat:

Hardwood forest. Found sharing a decaying stump with turkey tail fungus.

The yellow fungus has no stem. It's not exactly a sphere - it's more like a button. It almost looks like a dandy lion flower. But it's not a flower.

Weird! Did it have a stem? If not it could be a Slime Mould. And I think they might be False Turkey Tail fungi (Stereum species) around it. Check for pores on the underside. If it's smooth it's Stereum.
