From Sc Siberia in se Transbaicalia, Mongolia and c,e China, Inner Mongolia to s Heilungkiang s to Hainan and Fukien, s locally through se Asia (exc. ne,sw Thailand and c,s Laos), India, Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Sind, to Andaman Is. and Luzon I. in the n Philippines. Occurs in the Seychelles but no firm breeding record. Sometimes included in G. pratincola.
