Chlorophyllum brunneum

Description:

A robust mushroom with a large white cap (119mm wide) with brown concentrically arranged flakes and fibrils on it. The stipe had a frilly ring which was brown on the underside. the stipe thickened to a bulbous base. Gills were white and crowded. An emerging brown mushroom cap showed deep brown flakes in the centre cracking-up towards the margin.

Habitat:

Spotted under a conifer.

Notes:

This mushroom had been uprooted but still intact. Said to be common in gardens and compost heaps. Grows under pine and eucalypts.
