Douglas Fir, Oregon pine, Douglas spruce

Pseudotsuga menziesii

Notes:

This is the oldest known Douglas Fir in New Mexico. It is about 700 years old. It is growing in the lava fields surrounding the Bandera volcano. Growing in the thin, rocky soil has stunted it's growth somewhat, but the rough, sharp lava rocks also saved it from loggers.
