A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Branta canadensis
Two families of geese, with many fluffy and curious goslings in tow. When I'd get close, the mother hissed at me and took part in defensive posturing. After I got too close to the goslings, the adults and babies trailed off into the tall grass (fourth photo). The second family seemed comfortable enough and watched as they left (last photo).
Spotted in Great Kills Park, coastal grasslands.
There are seven subspecies of this bird.
