Wandering Garter Snake

Thamnophis elegans ssp. vagrans

Description:

Slender and grey, the only reptile found at this elevation in the Tetons.

Habitat:

Grand Teton National Park, WY, USA - over 7,000 ft. elevation.

Notes:

Hiking on the Canyon Trail, next to Grand Teton, my wife says, "there's a snake!" Being the expert of course, I told her that no reptiles would exist at over 7,000 ft. elevation and especially wouldn't be out with snow still on the ground. Obviously, I was wrong on both accounts, and she hasn't let me forget it ;).
