Not sure what this little flying insect was. Resembles a mosquito but I dont believe thats what it was.

It's lovely! It looks like a male mosquito to me as well. Male midges don't have those mouthparts as far as I know. It has amazing coloration!
That does look similar Mark, weird though Ive never seen one this color and such a large size
