Cattle Egret

Bubulcus ibis

Description:

"A small white heron of pastures and roadsides" Medium sized, mostly white with light browns on chest and on top of head. Has a shorter neck compared to most herons as well as sturdy yellow bill and dark legs.

Habitat:

Originally native to Africa and Asia and is now found year round in South America as well as Florida and Central America. Found foraging in many different areas from ponds to cattle pastures to sport fields and dumps. It will eat lots of insects and other bug types as well as smaller vertabrates.

Notes:

An opportunistic feeder: it will ow large animals or machines to catch the insects the stir up. It will also flock to fires as the fire also causes the insects to flee.
