Mushroom

Description:

Unknown fungus species growing up from beneath some casuarina needles on the Radar Hill ridge, Fort Shafter, Oahu, Hawaii. Need an assist from a fungi expert to identify this one! Been searching for mushrooms of Hawaii, could be a Agaricus subrufescens?

Ah, I had no idea. Will make certain to get shots from various angles during future mushroom encounters! Thanks for the advice!

Hi SargonR. It's most important to shoot the underneath of fungi. The fertile surface, the stipe and base usually give the most important info for an ID. This one doesn't show much there's the possibility of yellow gills and the remains of a partial veil (the shaggy remains on the rim at right). The association with pine might be relevant too. See if you can get under it next time :)
