Black-rumped Flameback or Lesser Golden-backed Woodpecker

Dinopium benghalense

Description:

Colourful bird with yellow back, a red crown, balk and white streaks on face and a black rump.

Habitat:

The avenue leading to and through the Indian Agricultural Reserach Institute in Delhi is a haven for birds. It is a silent road because not many cars pass through it; access is restricted. The tall trees are old and leafy...there are many types of trees here as well as shrubbery.

Notes:

I also saw what looked like one bird feeding the other. They were obviously building a nest; may have been a courtship ritual. I have the photo but it is not a good one.
