Winged kelp

Alaria marginata

Description:

Long slender blades that can reach 13 ft. with a raised midrib. The brown kelp is held on to rocks by a branched holdfast. It was common in many of the pools I visited but only the ones with a constant currant.

Habitat:

Spotted in a tide pool at Tongue Point.
