Mini-Ensign Wasp

Description:

The Ensign Wasps are fascinating and when you see them alive, they look as though they don't have an abdomen, just long legs attached to the thorax. The abdomen is very small and held high above the wings - like a little flag, hence the name. This one is only 3 mm long and never holds still. Family Evaniidae. The larvae of these solitary wasps develop in the egg cases of Cockroaches.

Habitat:

Garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
