African Banana Slug

Elisolimax flavescens

Description:

Slug about 6 cm. First of its kind in Project Noah. External: Variable coloration: yellow, sometimes greenish yellow, brownish yellow, gray; dark longitudinal bands on sides of mantle

Habitat:

Meadow, close to a seasonal (with water) river. (field next to Sphiso camp site, Mlawula Nature reserve)

Notes:

Tolerant of fairly dry conditions. It was found in a semi arid area. Reference: Herbert, DG. (1997). The terrestrial slugs of KwaZulu-Natal: diversity, biogeography and conservation.
