Description:

Look under the blue flower hat: Hibernating Bumble Bee Queens appear in spring and establish underground colonies - all sterile females - forage and tend larvae and pupae. They are peaceful and efficient gathers of nectar and pollen. Large to 3/5 to 1 inch (queens bigger than workers), furry, black with yellow or orange on thorax, part or most of abdomen, and sometimes on head.

Habitat:

Woodland, meadows, weedy fields, gardens and bogs. Throughout North America
