Neokolla sp.
This little fellow is only 3 mm long. I didn't even know it was colorful at first it was so small. The second horrible picture at least shows the color pattern of the wings. I haven't been able to find another one yet. Family Cicadellidae.
Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
I really do love it though! The eye, snout and front leg are crisp and as well as giving the insect an identity as an artist it is something I would use in an exhibition and would gain value from doing scientific illustration work as there is always a part that you need a clear photo of. It's difficult to have that all in one picture sometimes. Looking forward to seeing more!
Thanks kd, such a tactful way to comment on an ocean of out-of-focus insect parts! :)
Thank you Rob and Leuba. This is the first picture I've taken with my new camera (a Lumix GF5 with a Leica Macro lens) but….I am still not good with it. Time and practice will help :)
Thank you Cindy, I think you are right about the genus. This one from Arizona looks very close…..

Beautiful hopper, Lauren! My suggestion is just that, a suggestion. Hopefully it gives you somewhere to start on your search :)
