Leather Flower - Bluebill

Clematis pitcheri

Flowers are medium to dark purple with vertical ridges on the bell with four curled petals growing on vines. The seed pod looks like it's from outer space. A cluster of green tear drop seeds with curly fibrous tips on the end of a firm green stem.

Found as a sprawling ground cover flowering vine over small rocks and soil in partial shade. Small leaves on stems coming from the main vine.

This variety had dark plum purple bell blooms. Handsome.
