Common Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Description:

From the info on this Va. herp site below, is saying this is a Garter Snake... This set of images shows the difference between a Ribbon and a Garter Snake being the dark vertical lines on the margins of the supralabial scales being absent on a Ribbonsnake and present on a Gartersnake.. According to this site, there are no ribbon snakes in my area (Washington Co. Virginia)....http://www.virginiaherpetologicalsociety.com/reptiles/snakes/common-ribbonsnake/common_ribbonsnake.htm

Habitat:

Found in the grass under a treehouse at the edge of the woods.

Notes:

NOTICE: look close at the spider web running to it's head.

Yeah, I'm thinking that too. This one is not the common looking Garter Snake I've typically see around here. Thanks!!!

I believe it to be a Common Garter Snake. Ribbon Snakes often have smoother scales.
