From the info on this Va. herp site below, is saying this is a Garter Snake... This set of images shows the difference between a Ribbon and a Garter Snake being the dark vertical lines on the margins of the supralabial scales being absent on a Ribbonsnake and present on a Gartersnake.. Found in the grass under a treehouse at the edge of the woods.
