Magicicada cassini
Magicicada cassini is a noticeably smaller cicada than M. septendecim and has an all black underside of the abdomen. This cicada is older than I am!
Cherry orchard at Fix Farms, found while picking cherries.
Lifer! With these cicadas, I was doing much less cherry picking and much more cicada chasing! They were still in full force, there might have been more than when I visited on June 1, 2013! Part of the Brood II mass emergence in the Eastern United Staes. http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/255...

:-)
It kind of freaks me out that you're holding an insect that is old enough to drive. ;-)
Thank you so much, Claire! I loved these!
The red eyes are definitive and way cool.
That's a great find, J...I've been wanting to see one of these 17-year-cycle Cicadas.
