17-year Cicada

Magicicada cassini

Magicicada cassini is a noticeably smaller cicada than M. septendecim and has an all black underside of the abdomen. This cicada is older than I am!

Cherry orchard at Fix Farms, found while picking cherries.

Lifer! With these cicadas, I was doing much less cherry picking and much more cicada chasing! They were still in full force, there might have been more than when I visited on June 1, 2013! Part of the Brood II mass emergence in the Eastern United Staes.

It kind of freaks me out that you're holding an insect that is old enough to drive. ;-)

That's a great find, J...I've been wanting to see one of these 17-year-cycle Cicadas.
