chanterelle

Cantharellus cibarius

Description:

well known edible mushroom, the chanterelle ranges from pale cream to bright golden, depending on time of year, rainfall, and subspecies. The mushroom is the fruiting body of a much larger underground organism, one which is symbiotic with the roots of fir and other trees

Habitat:

road cut under trees, creating a drip line along a bank

Notes:

This time of year, they grow slowly, are generally pale tan and have a tight firm flesh. The above buttons may never gain any appreciable size, but appearto die back and wait for the next rain
