Canis latrens
Similar to a medium sized dog with erect pointed ears and seems to always look a bit scrawny in our area. Behaviour is usually a bit more skulking than this individual was exhibiting. They can bark like a dog, yip and yodel. This one seemed to be calling to his/her pack but was getting no response. It would bark and yip for a while, photo 2, then look back and forth, photo 4, then puts its head back and yodel, photo 1, and keep looking around the fields for ?
Range from Mexico to northern Canada. Usually found in rural areas, but now becoming more common in populated areas, even in Vancouver on occasion. We have them in our bush and fields, where they hunt the stray cats, chickens that do not go in to the coops at night and whatever else they can find.
I wondered if the reason he seemed so lost was that this field was long hay and grass before but had been cut and bailed today. Maybe this was a place they usually hunted before?! Anyhow, I sure enjoyed watching and listening to him.

Thanks, Joshua. I am looking forward to spring already so I can get out there watching things more.
Great animal behavior! Love me some coyotes.
Thanks, Adriano!
Nice spotting :)
Could be! I loved his sunset serenade.
Could be a juvenile.
