Description:

Family: Brassicaceae....Genus Degenia containing only one species, Degenia velebitica (Croatian: velebitska degenija). This is endemic, rarest and the most famous plant in Croatia, and become a symbol of Velebit region. This plant is discovered by Dr. Àrpàd Degen 1917. (name). Degenia is perennial with bright yellow flowers with four petals. Leaves are linear lanceolate, 2-4cm long, covered with star-shaped hairs.The root grows deep around 1 m. Flowers in May.

Habitat:

Grows on three small places in mountain Velebit: Budakovo brdo, Krug and Pavelić plana. This one is spotted in mountain Krug. The growing area has to be in south-east disposition at sun, has to be in rocky slopes and screes and inclined at specified angle (habitat represents third photo). Nature park Velebit
