A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Zenaida aurita
I spotted this bird on the beach in key west Florida. It is a dark reddish color with spots on his back and wings. His beak and wings are black and belly is a lighter color.
Seashore in Florida.
This is Zenaida macroura, which is much more likely to be found here. Although Audubon reported breeding populations in the Florida Keys, there have only been 3 records from Florida.
Thank you so much KarenSaxton for the ID! This bird is not even in my bird guide. I only saw him for a few seconds and then he flew away.
