Pirate spider (male)

Mimetus hesperus

Description:

Mature male has modified palps (look like boxing gloves near mouth). Pirate spiders have a row of long spines on the inner surface of each front leg.

Habitat:

Inside my townhouse, on inside of front door. Remained there most of the day.

Notes:

Pirate spiders are named for their habit of invading the webs of other spiders and killing the occupant.
