Io moth catapillar

Automeris io

Description:

These caterpillars have yellow or green spines covering most of their body. They also have two stripes, a red one over a white one, down the length of each side of their body close to their feet. Their sting can be severe, so DO NOT TOUCH!! If the reaction is severe, seek medical attention. Some reactions may just lead to persistent itching and/or stinging. Treatment of a mild reaction can be to repeatedly apply and strip off scotch tape from the sting to remove the spines. After this, apply ice packs to reduce the stinging and follow up with a paste of baking soda and water.

Habitat:

I found this one on an ear of corn.
