A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Columba livia
Rock doves have a blue-gray color and two black bands on their wings. Most have iridescent throat feathers and some have dark spots on their wings. They have broad, pointed wings and a wide, rounded tail with a dark tip. Adults are also known for their reddish-orange eyes.
Although they are native to Europe, North Africa, and southwestern Asia, Rock doves live in urban areas, farmland, and rocky cliffs worldwide, including North America.
Rock doves feed primarily on seeds, fruits, and occasionally invertebrates. They are also often seen eating discarded food left by people. Rock doves are generally resident and do not migrate.
