White-winged Dove

Zenaida asiatica

Description:

White-winged Doves are normally brown and have dark lines on their cheeks. Their tails are tipped in white and there are black stripes coming from the bird's underside. Their faces are marked with black streaks and there is blue skin around their eyes.

Habitat:

White-winged Doves are usually in desert habitats in the Southwest and in cities and suburbs of Texas and the Southeast coasts. They often visit backyards, usually those with water and food. The doves wander widely across the continent after the conclusion of the breeding season.

Notes:

White-winged Doves search for grain and seeds on the ground to eat, and they also eat berries. In the Sonoran Desert, the doves eat many saguaro cactus fruits. They often gather in huge flocks during food searches, as well as during migration.
