Adelpha iphiclus iphiclus
One of the most beautiful of the Adelpha Sisters. The third picture is of one that had been hit by a car on the highway showing the underside of the wings. Family Nymphalidae.
Heavy shrubbery along the highway between San Cristobal de Las Casas and Tuxtla Gutierrez, Chiapas at about 865 meters elevation.
This link shows the larvae of this species: http://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/ad.... The Adelpha species group is large: http://www.nic.funet.fi/pub/sci/bio/life...
Thank you bayucca, I learned a lot. I like the link Learn About Butterflies.
I wouldn't have noticed in such detail the little pointer thing on the forewing!
Note the little orange pointer on the forewing.
