Asian Koel

Eudynamys scolopaceus

Description:

This spotting is about brood parasitism. #1 A Koel chick opens its beak asking for food from the host parent (Yellow billed blue magpie). #2 The magpie is keeping a distance from the koel chick. #3 Magpie scared away the koel chick and moved on to entertain its own who was sitting on the same tree and was hungry too. #4 The magpie parent perched along with its own brood and started preening them.

Habitat:

Western Himalayas.

I confirm that this is an Asian Koel. Sorry about the confusion.

Hi Satyen. I am positive it was a Koel. I had observed them for many days. I also saw a mature koel coming to them and the foster parent had it went away. What was your suggestion? I missed it.
As for the magpie female, it looks same as the male. You can see in the pictures the down on the shoulders and under the wings of the juveniles. Also, their heads are not completely black and the beaks are tender.

Sorry about the hasty suggestion. I have deleted it. Are you sure that the first one is an Asian Koel? The immatures and juveniles look like the female or that is what I have read.
